Paul also comes from a background of original music, having performed in several rock, metal and punk bands from his teenage years to his late 20’s. During that time Paul has gained a wealth of experience on the stage by touring the UK at grass routes venues and also making larger festival appearances – including Bloodstock Metal Festival in both 2010 and 2014. Paul has been involved in writing and recording self-release albums and EPs, and has a vast knowledge of band management skills, not only from his time performing in bands, but also from his 8.5 years working at one of Birminghams best live music venues as Booking and Promotions manager and as a sound engineer. On top of that Paul has also worked closely with Laney Amplification promoting some of their amp ranges on several photo and video shoots with their media team.

Paul started his musical journey at the age of 5 with keyboard and piano lessons, where his knowledge of music theory was taught (Paul passed his grade 7 music theory exam at the age of 15). It was at the age of 9 when Paul was keen to learn a second instrument so started lessons on classical guitar in his junior school. Paul excelled in his classes and by the time he was 11, he owned his first electric guitar and amp and started to learn different chords, scales and immersed himself in different styles like funk, blues, rock and metal. By the age of 12 he had formed a band with school mates (of which he and 2 other original members stayed as band mates – through several name changes and directions – for the next 17 years!). During his time in secondary school, Paul started teaching other school mates from home. This transitioned into his college years where he continued to teach more of his friends. But as he started his higher education, Paul had to stop teaching his lessons from home. Little did he know that he would end up returning to teaching all these years later!

Paul passed his music GCSE with an A grade and went on to college to study music production and sound engineering at BTEC level 4. At the age of 18 Paul enrolled on a Popular Music Studies HND course, focusing on performance and production pathways, and after passing that 2 years later, Paul found himself working at the legendary Roadhouse Birmingham music venue as a sound engineer and then later worked his way up to Bookings and Promotions manager. Alongside his work at the venue, Paul has continuously played in his bands gradually transitioning from his original bands to his fully professional corporate work.

Recently Paul has moved on from his work at the venue to focus on his main passion – The Guitar! To work alongside his professional gigging schedule, Paul is now dedicating his time to teach others his guitar skills, and transferring his musical knowledge and experience, to others that have the same love and passion for the guitar.

“Playing the guitar has been my passion and it has brought so much enjoyment and fun into my life. I’m excited to now be able to focus on teaching my knowledge and skills to others so that they too can enjoy the guitar and develop their skills. Whether you’re a beginner or an intermediate player please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me and book your first lesson. I adapt lessons to suit all my students individually, focusing on each persons level, desires, favourite styles and genres, favourite artists and by teaching at a pace that is comfortable and will allow each student to learn with confidence and enjoyment. Guitar is Fun!”
